Protruding ears, often referred to as sail ears in the vernacular, are not only a cosmetic problem, but can also have psychological consequences and inferiority complexes for those affected. Especially in childhood, teasing is not uncommon. Because the growth of the cartilage tissue of the ear is usually completed after the age of four, surgical adjustment of the ears can be considered as early as 5 to 6 years of age.
Putting on ears: Treatment of protruding ears
Thanks to the so-called otopexy (ear correction), protruding or small ears, large earlobes or a missing folding of the auricle can be corrected. With the right indication and realistic expectations, both children and adult patients are very satisfied and happy with the result achieved. The improvement of external appearance subsequently also contributes to increased self-satisfaction and self-esteem.
Before having the ears attached, a comprehensive consultation is indicated, as with all plastic and aesthetic surgery procedures. At Clinique DELC, you can rely on attentive, trusting and competent care when treating protruding ears in children and adults.
